Looking back on an amazing week in Portugal for Ava, Omo and Ruth, at the European Championships…
Ava was competing in her first European Championships, and only her second international representing GBR. She trained incredibly well but unfortunately the nerves got the better of her when in came to competition, making a couple of significant mistakes. However, loads to take away from the experience and she’s fired up for the rest of the year.
Following Omo’s brilliant World Championships at the back end of 2023, he started the competition continuing his rich vein of form; finishing qualifications leading the entire field! Unfortunately finals didn’t quite go according to plan for Omo but he finished a hugely respectable 6th individually, and 4th in the team competition.
Ruth showed all her experience as a consistent World Class gymnast to finish prelims as the top GBR gymnast, going into the individual final in 4th position. She then exorcised a significant demon by competing in the team final (last time she did this, at 2021 World Champs, she got injured and ended up in hospital requiring surgery!) helping the GBR Senior Women’s team to secure the Silver medal 🥈. Individual final saw Ruth make an uncharacteristic error seeing her finish in 8th.
We are incredibly proud of all 3 gymnasts and Coach Phil as they helped GBR top the overall medal table, winning an outstanding 16 medals (8 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze) across TRA, TUM and DMT.
