Gymnastics Classes for Families Across Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire
We're often asked how far people travel to train with us, so we thought it was worth writing down properly: Marriotts Gymnastics Club is based at Marriotts Sports Centre on Telford Avenue in Stevenage, and while a large part of our membership lives locally, we welcome families from right across North Hertfordshire and into Bedfordshire — including Knebworth, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Letchworth Garden City, Hitchin, Baldock, Luton, Biggleswade and beyond. If you've been searching for a gymnastics club "near me" from one of these towns, here's what the journey and the club actually look like.
Getting to Marriotts…
From Knebworth Knebworth is one of the closest towns to us, around 2.5–3.5 miles away via the A1(M) or B197 — a short hop for a weekly class. Several Knebworth families already train with us across our preschool, recreational and squad programmes.
From Welwyn Garden City Welwyn Garden City is around 7–9 miles south of Stevenage, an easy run down the A1(M) or a short hop on the Great Northern rail line into Stevenage station. We have Welwyn Garden City families across our recreational, trampoline and squad classes.
From Hatfield Hatfield sits just beyond Welwyn Garden City, around 9–11 miles from our Telford Avenue site. It's a comfortable drive up the A1(M), and one we know well from our own Hatfield-based members.
From Letchworth Garden City Letchworth is roughly 5–7 miles from Stevenage, an easy drive along the A505/A1(M) corridor. We've got Letchworth families in both our recreational classes and our competitive Women's and Men's Artistic squads.
From Hitchin Hitchin sits a similar distance away, around 4–5 miles from our Telford Avenue site, making Marriotts a realistic option if your local gymnastics classes have a waiting list of their own.
From Baldock A little further out at around 7–8 miles, Baldock families most often join us for our trampoline and DMT programmes, training alongside gymnasts prepping for County, Regional and National competition under Head National Coach Phil Dodson.
From Luton Luton is around 14–15 miles from Stevenage, roughly a 25–30 minute drive via the A505 or A1(M). We have a number of Luton-based gymnasts, particularly within our squad programmes, who make the regular journey for the standard of coaching on offer.
From Biggleswade and beyond in Bedfordshire Biggleswade is around 13–15 miles north-west of Stevenage, an easy run up the A1(M). We welcome gymnasts from Biggleswade and further afield across Bedfordshire who are looking for a genuinely competitive training environment.
Why squad members travel from further afield
It isn't unusual for a recreational gymnast to train at their nearest club — but competitive squad training is different. Thanks to the reputation of Marriotts Gymnastics Club and the quality and experience of our coaching team, including British Gymnastics Head National DMT Coach Phil Dodson, a number of our Women's Artistic, Men's Artistic, Trampoline and DMT squad members travel considerably further than our recreational membership base, with families making the regular journey from as far afield as Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire to train with us. For gymnasts serious about progressing through the competitive pathway, the standard of coaching on offer is often worth the longer drive.
Why families travel to Marriotts
GymMark accreditation — British Gymnastics' recognised standard for coaching quality and safeguarding.
A genuine pathway — from your child's first walking steps in preschool gymnastics, through recreational classes, right up to competitive squads in Women's Artistic, Men's Artistic, DMT and Trampoline.
Established since 1972 — we've been part of the Stevenage sporting community, under various names, for over 50 years.
Not-for-profit — every surplus we make goes straight back into coaching and club development, not shareholders.
Thinking of joining from outside Stevenage?
The process is exactly the same wherever you're travelling from — check our How to Join page for the full first-timer walkthrough, or head straight to the waiting list for your age group. Squad enquiries from outside our usual catchment, including from Buckinghamshire and Cambridgeshire, are welcome — email us with your gymnast's training history to discuss a trial. Term dates generally follow the Hertfordshire school calendar, so timing your first class around a new term is usually the easiest way in.
